In Less Than 2 Minutes You Will Learn How To Choose A Bicycle For Sport Or Leisure

You will have many questions when you start cycling for sport. The very first question that will come to mind is what type of bicycle you should be buying for your first time. This can be fun and exciting as well as a little intimidating for someone who hasn't done this before.

Spend just a little time doing your research and you can avoid making the wrong purchase. The following are just a few questions you will want to ask to get you moving forward in this process.

Do you need to buy a carbon fiber bike?

Absolutely, well maybe, I don't know, should you? With unlimited shapes of tubing, carbon fiber is just freaky cool. This type of material is lighter than most other materials. It will give you a certain quality in your riding that most metal and other materials can't provide. If you decide to race or just don't want a buckboard ride, carbon fiber can offer a super stiff frame with the best mix of aerodynamics and low weight.

The downfall is that carbon can be expensive and all carbon is not the same quality. Lower grade carbon fiber is heavier and not as durable, but will be cheaper than the higher quality grades. This will give you a dead ride quality feel when you compare it to more expensive higher grade carbon fibers.

A mix of carbon and alloy can be a good alternative to the racy type feel of an all carbon fiber frame. A good alternative to an all carbon model, this mixture won't give you as smooth a ride, but will offer a frame that is light and relatively stiff. While a titanium frame can deliver, the all carbon fiber will offer the smoothest ride by far. Spend on what you want, the choice is always yours.

I'm a woman, do I need a woman's bike?

Most bikes come standard to fit the male physiology more that the female physiology. Manufactures are now moving toward creating bikes that are made specifically for the female population and their anatomical needs. For example, shorter reach levers to compensate for smaller hands. Another example would be changing the frame tubing to suit the lighter body of a woman. This leads to the rider enjoying a more comfortable experience, creating confidence in their bike.

Most standard bikes come with a cockpit that is longer in turn forcing the female rider to stretch out their arms and torsos while also having to move up the saddle. This moves the center of gravity too far forward and makes it difficult to get a solid grip on the levers for control. Causing a mitigating power output removing traction from the rear wheel and compromising balance. I don't have to tell you that none of this is desirable.

To discover if you're better off in a woman's bike, go to your local bike shop and take a test ride. Then try to ride in a man's bike and compare the two. To be sure in your choice, this is the best thing that you can do.

Plush positioning or race positioning?

A plush position is for comfort. This is when the angle of the upper tube and your back is greater than 45 degrees. This position gives you good control at slower speeds and will cause less stress on your arms, neck, and lower back, creating a more enjoyable ride. This position is not the most ideal for people who like speed and racing, but more for those interested in the riding experience and scenic views.

Now when you have an angle that is less than 45 degrees, this would be considered race positioning. This is ideal when your trying to make great time on those long roads. Geometry is working in your favor here. You can count on getting more power and speed using this position.

When you make the decision to purchase you first bike, these are only a few of the questions that may come to mind. This doesn't have to be hard, but can actually be exciting and fun. Just do a little research and have some diligence an you'll make a great decision on your first purchase.
