Impress Family and Friendsby David Squire
So you like to take lots of pictures? What do you do with them all? Do you take the time to put them in a photo album book? Or just upload them into your favorite online account? All of these are excellent choices, but how about the home? Do you have picture frames in the house? Of course you do. We all have picture frames in the house. The question is: What do we do with them? Do we leave them alone and not pay any attention to them? When is the last time you stopped and looked at your photos and thought about good times. Have those photos become boring and outdated? How can that be? After all, you take tons of pictures. It's easy to forget about those pictures that are displayed on the walls or on the end tables. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have pictures on the walls and tables. It shows where you've been and who your family and friends are. Every year we take new family photos to send to our family and friends and replace the old photos with the new ones. Updating your photos helps keep things in your home interesting. After all, they tell a story. Photos are visual stories that we should surround ourselves with. They make for interesting subjects when entertaining by creating conversations. For years, we have taken our latest photos and replaced them with the same frame as years past; however, we do not remove the pictures currently in the frame. We simply put the new one over the old. Although, over the years, it's getting harder to put new pictures in due to the thickness of all the photos being stacked. But no problem. We just removed the cardboard backing. A few years ago, we started doing this with our friends' pictures and our vacations. It's really neat replacing the photos each year, especially when you take a few minuets to ponder memories of years past. Over time, you can visually see yourself, family, and friends changing from the clothing to the hairdos and just the plain old aging process. Take a hall in your home and use it as your canvas for displaying all those photos. I have seen where people took some nice wood trim and created a square or rectangle on the wall. Next they either painted the inside a different color or just left it alone. Then they started taking photos and pasting them by overlapping one another and creating a mosaic of photos with friends and places they have traveled. Once a year take some time, make it a family project, and change those photos out with new fun stuff. How about that last family vacation? Don't let the memories fade in some photo album book. Be proud of the fun you had and display the photos on your walls and end tables. After all, do you really want your friends and family over to see the same photos you've had for years? I'm not talking about the loved ones that are no longer with us. I'm talking about updating with new fun photos with friends, family, and travels. I like to call our hallway the walk of fame. By updating photos, it keeps our home interesting. I especially like it when guests take the time to stop and gaze at the photos we have on display. It's even better when you hear, "Where was this taken?" or "Who is this person?" However you chose to update your surroundings, make it a family activity and keep life interesting.
