PRojects IN Controlled Environments (PRINCE2) is a very useful method for project management. Its a process based style of managing projects and is used to help sort out; who should be involved with what project, what each persons role should be and what their everyday jobs are. In the PRINCE2 process it tells you what information needs to be gathered, this system is the standard for project management in the United Kingdom and it is also used worldwide.
Most businesses that want to use PRINCE2 as their own project management method need to have someone in the company PRINCE2 trained. Training is a must because PRINCE2 is very complex and has a lot of different processes and routes. If a business sends an employee to learn PRINCE2 they will come away with the knowledge and knowhow of how to manage a project, plus they will then understand all the terminology involved.
One of the great things about PRINCE2 is that ability to adapt it to big or small projects, even from large businesses, right down to small business with only a few employees. Setting up PRINCE2 in your business can be harder than you think, some people do find it quite tricky to implement and this can lead to the process being excessively regimented in all factors. On the other hand, because the employee(s) dont understand the methods properly, they can end up skipping parts out and end up taking unnecessary short cuts.

It may be the first time that PRINCE2 has been tried out with your business, or maybe just in your department.
You may have used PRINCE2 before with your business, but you just arent using it to its full potential and so are missing vital parts.
The business may be sticking to the exact words too much and not adjusting it for their own wants and needs.
To use PRINCE2 it must be treated as a project, this process has been tried and tested by many, many businesses, so it does work. Another option you could perhaps apply is getting a PRINCE2 trained person in to help you set up and implement you own process.
PRINCE2 coaches can help out businesses with the implementation of the PRINCE2 management process into their business projects. You can ask them to come in and guide their business through all the thoughts and processes involved. You could also ask them to give individual sessions with employees to support them in the change over. The same could be done with small groups of employees as well.
To conclude; the main way to succeed when implementing PRINCE2 is to keep in the mind the fact that you need to adapt it specifically to your business. No matter how big or small you or the project are, it can be tailored to your specific needs, always remember, if you cant do it yourself then you can always get someone in to help you out. You cant just send an employee off to go learn PRINCE2 and expect them to come back and implement it straight away; it still needs to be customised for your individual business.
