Implementing Parent Advice The Easy Way

By:

Children are not born with a manual on parent advice with them. Having children is one of the main reasons why most people do not look forward to married life, because of the woeful responsibilities that are associated with it.

Being a parent is an important responsibility that many people find hard to tackle successfully and consequentially are afraid to commit to parenthood. Making use of good parent advice and a sound upbringing can mould your child into a fine individual and an outstanding citizen.

The key to good parenting is building a relationship with your child that is based on a mutual understanding that ideally resembles a variant of friendship. Being friends with your child is important as it side steps many of the difficulties associated with having to deal with those issues that are unsavory and do not usually prompt a discussion between a parent and child.

Another good piece of parent advice is to cut down on lectures and concentrate more on different forms of discussing various issues. This is advantageous in the sense that it might lead to the child opening up to the parent in an honest manner.

Most parents and children find it awkward to discuss issues like teenage sex and pregnancy, safe sexual behavior, about love and relationships, etc with each other. But the issue is resolved if there exists a level of friendship under the facade of which friendly discussions and banter can progress on a variety of sensitive issues including the ones mentioned above with minimum or no awkwardness cropping up in between.

Encouraging children to speak openly about anything and everything at a very early age is important. There are phases in a child's life, especially adolescence when they tend to withdraw within themselves or prefer the company of their peers to that of their parents. The parents should be aware of such phases and give maximum space to the child and at the same time maintain a level of friendship and openness. Such kind of understanding and openness if shown would be reciprocated by the child by choosing to confide in the parent in the same way as they do with their friends and peers.

Instilling values and principles in the child can be inspiring and can be done by citing examples from the parents own life or by citing examples of famous personalities. Inculcating reading habits also increase the level of understanding that children and young adults have about the things that are happening around them, aid in gaining a refined perspective about life in general, and are highly recommended.

There are methods of suggestion that are employed to plant the seeds of an idea in the head of the child and once they sprout the idea, it is tended with care until the desired level of success is achieved. This instills a sense of independence and helps the child to think and resolve their own issues without seeming to have depended on the parents. It is also important to ensure that the child is convinced that the advice that you give is for their own benefit and not meant to be a lecture.
