Impact Of Bank Foreclosure Properties On A Neighborhood

By:

When bank foreclosure properties begin to surround a neighborhood they have a serious impact on the entire surrounding area. The many ways that the area is affected includes lowering the value of surrounding homes, bringing in crime, and by having a poor looking neighborhood.

When foreclosures exist in a neighborhood they often bring the entire look and feel of a neighborhood down. The problem is that foreclosures are owned by banks and banks dont have money to pay for maintenance of a home or to be sure nothing is going on at the home. The landscaping often turns to weeds, dead grass, and a very unsightly looking front area of the home. This looks really bad sitting next to a nicely groomed home next door. The neighbors are often irritated but there is nothing that they can do about it.

Foreclosures never sell for the actual market price when they do sell. They usually sell for thousands of dollars less than what they are really worth. This is because a bank wants to unload a home and they are willing to take what they can to get money for the house. The problem is that the market value of a house is based on surrounding area sales and it doesnt matter that the surrounding homes are foreclosures. The average is what comes out of it. This forces homeowners that want to sell their homes unable to make a big profit and others that need to pull equity out of their home unable to do so because the value of their home has dropped so much there is no longer any equity.

Crime is another factor when bank foreclosure properties move into areas. It is very common for homeless people to recognize houses that have been sitting for a long time without any activity. When this happens they will break into the home and use it for shelter. It is very common for homeless to live in a foreclosed house and they may even be damaging the home on the inside. This is another way that neighborhoods suffer, especially if there are more homeless and sketchy looking people hanging out in the neighborhood. It can be unsafe for children and the people that live in the nearby homes.
