Impact Of Accidents On Auto Insurance

By:

I have never been involved in a car accident that has led to serious injuries but I do realize the importance of insurance. When you have a car accident two things can happen: the car can get damaged extremely and the second thing is that people can get injured or even die. But regardless of what happens the impact of accidents on auto insurance can never be underestimated.

Naturally a person visits an insurance company with the hope that they can be secured against the risk of an unexpected accident from occurring. In the event of loss being incurred the insurance company is supposed to reimburse the insured to put him back in the position he was in before the accident.

But when you have a car accident you don't only get reimbursed. Yes, reimbursement is a natural consequence of a car accident but this is not all that happens. An accident is an indication that you are not a good and reliable driver. So having an accident negatively impacts on your chances of getting insured.

What I mean is that the traffic board keeps records of people who have accidents. Inevitably the insurance company will consult with the traffic board to find out the nature of the circumstances surrounding the accident. They do so because they intend to evaluate the level of risk that they have to insure.

An accident means that there is a lot of risk that you are exposed to. The natural thing that happens is that you will be liable to pay a lot more premiums every month or year tan a person who has never had an accident. This is what they call high risk insurance and it can be too costly.

And worse still if the accidents were due to negligence on your part you stand to pay more in terms of insurance premiums. This is why you need not drive under the influence of alcohol or over the speeding limit. There are so many ways of reducing the amount of premiums payable, and one way is by avoiding accidents.

My advice to any driver who has a high propensity for accidents is that they should take a defensive driving course. Having a defensive driving course neutralizes any bad record you might have gathered over the years. But if you ignore this don't be surprised when it turns out that you have to pay a lot of premiums.
