If This Is Change, How Do You See It?

If This Is Change, How Do You See It?

By:

Is this the change America sought? Like many others, I found fault with the Bush Administration, but I also found things they did right. The same applies to President Obama.

My problem now, and that of a majority of Americans, is the pace at which we are being deluged with huge spending bills. The quick push for "We must have this NOW!" is really starting to bother me.

When we're talking about things that will keep our grandchildren in debt, there's no reason not to be very careful about what Congress passes. Every time they get so excited about something that they rush it through, we lose.

I have yet to see a bill come from the Hill without flaws and unintended consequences. They may mean well but, if even they cannot understand it, they must take more time, so that they, and we, can study it more.

I also have a problem with the fact that Democrats, and the President, are keeping the health care bill from public view, even after promises to the contrary.
Where's the transparency we were promised?

Another big stumbling block for me is the total lack of bi-partisanship. Again, we were promised there would be input from both parties, and it's not happening. Heal the rift? Not that I've seen.

At first, regardless of what the media said, the Republicans did offer input, alternatives, and amendments. All were swiftly rejected by the Democrats. That action put the Republicans on the defensive and they refused to go along with legislation that totally disregarded them and their input.

The President has, several times, huddled behind closed doors, with ONLY the Democrats, to try and work out a compromise between the Dem. House bill, and the Dem. Senate bill. No thought was given to inviting Republicans.

I wanted, and still do want, this president to succeed. If only he would try to uphold his campaign promises and truly strive for transparency and bi-partisanship, I would applaud him.

Sadly, I'm beginning to place him squarely in the ranks of the 'sleazy' politician who, once elected, rapidly forgets what he / she promised the people who voted for them. It's too bad that they outnumber the dedicated public servants, and I was hoping he would not become one of them.

His lack of experience, push to pass health care and cap and trade, deals with the unions, and choices of senior staff, all bother me tremendously. These things tell me the change he wants for us is not the change America needs.

Mr. President, think about your promises, review your ideals, look closely at the people around you that we see, and let's try to make GOOD changes for America. Please don't drag us into Chicago style politics, where corruption is rampant.

Most Americans want you to succeed, but not at the cost of our grandchildren's future, or our respect for you. Be the man the people chose, not the sleazy politician we so despise.
