If I Get A Shipping Address Wrong On A Delivery, Will It Cost Me Money?

Fees and surcharges are a part of how courier companies create their invoicing totals. Most of those fees and surcharges are going to be assessed based on requests that you make of a courier company which vary from their normal service, such as when you want a delivery made on a holiday, or when you want a temperature sensitive package delivered. There are other cases where an additional fee may be assessed however. A good example of this is how an Atlanta delivery service might charge a fee for a shipping address which was listed incorrectly on a courier request or on a shipping label.

The reason that most courier companies will charge a fee for an incorrect shipping address is because it ends up costing them money. Basically, unless the mistake is caught before the courier ever takes the package out of your building, it will be a mistake that costs the courier company time to correct, and as we all know, time is money. This is especially true in the courier industry.

When a shipping label is wrong, it could result in your package being delivered to the wrong address. This is the worst case scenario. Even if the mistake is caught sooner though, the package will likely be flagged by the courier company as a return to sender package. This means that they will deliver the package back to your location for correction. The fee that you pay will be partly to cover the cost of their services used delivering the package back to your address.

If the package is actually delivered the wrong address, the problem gets a little worse. The courier company will almost certainly spend some time and resources trying to retrieve the package for you. Failing that, they will have to put an insurance claim on the package. Both of these are expensive, and since the mistake was caused by your error, that cost will be passed along to you.

This might sound a bit intimidating, but the great news is that most courier companies are going to have ways to help you avoid this mistake. You should use tools like the online address book that they provide you with, because it will often be equipped with features like address verification, which will flag any address that is not a valid US address. Together, those two features alone can keep you from making this mistake most of the time.
