If A Shipment Is Delayed, Do Couriers Contact Their Clients?

By:

Every courier company has their own set of rules as to how they handle delays that occur in their shipping operations. The best Miami courier services are going to have several things in common though. They are going to always be sure to keep their customers as well informed as possible about their shipments, although they may do so in different ways depending on how their company is set up, and on the nature and severity of the delay.

When courier companies experience a large delay which is going to significantly impact their operation and the shipping time of their customers, they will typically contact the customers directly to let them know about the problem. This might include events such as when a courier vehicle has been in a traffic accident and become disabled, or if severe weather has closed a highway, as can sometimes happen during the winter.

When these types of delays happen, the courier company will usually call you right away to let you know what has happened. This is why courier companies often ask for backup contact methods when you open an account with them. If they can't reach you at your primary business contact number, they will often email you or try calling you on your cell phone, because they know that information of this type is typically very important to their clients.

If the delay that your shipment runs into is much less severe than those described above, then the courier may still let you know about it, but they will do so in a different way. In these situations, they will instead probably simply post an update about your shipment on their online status system. This is the tracking system that you can access through their website to see how your package is progressing.

When you place your order with the courier, you will be issued a reference number. When you go to the courier's website, you will see a place where you can enter that reference number in order to track your package. Your courier company will list status updates such as 'delayed' or 'stuck in transit' in this area somewhere if your shipment has encountered a more minor type of delay. Even if they don't, if they have GPS tracking enabled on your shipment, you should be able to see if it has been delayed if you check back often to track any movement of your package.
