Most patients undergo breast augmentation because they feel that their breasts are disproportionately smaller than their body. Breast augmentation is also a popular procedure following significant weight loss or aging, both of which can result in loss of breast volume or size. Breast augmentation can also be used to correct uneven or asymmetrical breasts, either occurring naturally or after mastectomy.

Ideal candidates for breast augmentation are adult women in overall good health. An active infection anywhere on the body, or malignant or pre-malignant breast cancer, will disqualify patients from undergoing breast augmentation.
