Ice Maker Tips For The Ultimate Bartender

By:

Bartending is a harder job than most bartenders are given credit for, but small details are the key to making the drinks perfect and the customers happy. Investing in a good ice maker, may seem obvious but some people are not aware how important ice can be in an alcoholic beverage or cocktail, so here in this article we shall look at how to get the most out of your ice maker and keep your customers sipping cool drinks throughout the hot summer.

Cocktails are the perfect summer beverage and people tend to love them and just about every cocktail that is cold contains ice or is created in a shaker using ice. You may think that the type of ice that you use for your cocktails isn't important but really, it can make or break a cocktail. Ice usually isn't considered an important aspect to drink making, but if a recipe needs ice then you can guarantee that square cubes straight from the freezer aren't going to quite cut it.

So the next time you take a scoop from the ice maker make sure you are choosing the correct type of ice for your drink's recipe:
Cubes- These are the most common form of ice and the most versatile, their uses are pretty much endless. Ideal for liquor on the rocks, for stirring, shaking or to even just chill a drink they are thicker and larger than most forms of ice and melt slowly, so they don't dilute the drink.

Shaved- Shaved ice is the type of ice that you would recognise from snow cones, it is soft and fine and ideal for making drinks that have a thicker and frosty consistency. This type of ice works really well in a shaker and can be adjusted to make an adult version of the 'snow cone'.

Cracked- Cracked ice looks very similar to ice cubes but are far smaller than them. This type of ice melts far quicker than ice cubes and will augment a drink with a lot of water. Cracked ice is best used when creating a frozen drink with a blender as they break up easily.

Block-If you work in a bar or like to serve drinks properly in your home then this is the best type of ice for you. Ice tools allow you to break off sizes of ice that you need. Don't forget moulds either, with ice moulds you can form ice into any shape that you like. Just remember to keep your ice maker away from strong smells as ice happens to pick up smells easily around it.
