I Need To Lose Weight: Is Breakfast Important

By:

Like many of us, you may find yourself in the midst of a frantic morning routine just to get out of the house on time. Sometimes it is tempting to forego breakfast. Some people never eat breakfast because they just do not feel hungry at that hour of the day. The down side of this is that missing breakfast means we miss out on vital nutrients and this may jeopardize our health and can also not be bad for the waistline.

There are a myriad of reasons as to why skipping breakfast is a bad idea. If you are in the process of trying to lose weight, eating food first thing in the morning helps to kick start the metabolism for the day. If you think about it, you have essentially been fasting all night. Therefore eating breakfast allows you to start your day with nutrients that your body has been missing out on during the hours that you have been sleeping. Nutrients that are vital for your body to function properly.

If you skip on breakfast it is probable that you will feel hungrier at lunch, making it likely that you will eat more than you would normally eat. Recent studies have shown that eating a healthy breakfast is an important part of any weight loss plan. The benefits do not stop there, though. Eating a nutritious meal first thing can also improve your focus thereby improving your performance at work or school.

Just any old breakfast will not do, however. It is important to try and get a balance of nutrients, including good quality proteins from natural sources. It is important to steer well clear of breakfast foods that contain lots of sugar, as is the case with many processed cereal brands. Sugar does give you energy temporarily, but this is generally followed by a slump a few hours later. There are many better food choices that will give your body what it needs.

You should try not to fall into the trap of thinking you can simply binge at breakfast time and skip meals for the rest of the day. Eating just one large meal during the day is a bad idea. You will find it far easier to lose weight by eating many smaller meals 3 to 4 hours apart. This will provide you with the energy your body needs to have food consistently throughout the day. It also means that you will be less likely to fall into temptation and eat the sugary snacks that will undo all your hard work.

It is possible to develop good breakfast habits over as little as a two week period. It is important if you are just starting out and are not used to eating breakfast that you begin by eating something, even if it is only a small piece of fruit or a piece of toast. This will help you get into the habit of eating at this time of day. You can then increase the amount until you are eating a normal sized meal. Try to sit at the table and take the time eat a well-balanced breakfast.

Getting into these habits every morning will get you off to a great start and go a long way to ensuring your weight loss success.
