I Need To Declutter My Home - Help!

By:

Are your insides screaming "Will someone please declutter my home" all because you don't want to do it on your own? There are paid professionals that will bring organization to your home. However, with the way the economy is right now, their services may not be affordable to you. So, let's talk about how you can do it on your own. For the money that you would spent on a professional organizer, you could take that same amount of money, treat your family to dinner and still have a lot of money left over.

How many times have you said "I'm going to get organized real soon"? Begin a little at a time. Don't expect to get it done all in one day. Clutter and weight are sort of similar. You did not gain either of them on the same day, so you won't get rid of your weight or clutter in the same day either. So as an alternative to wishing for the "please declutter my home for me" magic cure, create your own plan today.

Your plan needs a couple of days in order to work properly. As a part of your plan, you will need plenty of extra storage bins. Depending on the mess you need to organize, you might have to ask your family to help. As a matter of fact, getting your family involved is a really good idea. You didn't create this clutter by yourself, so they should help too.

Schedule a family meeting and divvy up the job assignments. Be specific about what each family member is expected to do. You want be certain that everyone understands the instructions. Describe exactly what you want and what you expect the final outcome to be in each room.

Inform your family that no new items should be bought for the home until the house is organized. This will stop new clutter from accumulating during the time that you are attempting to organize the older items that are turning into clutter. At the end of this project you will never have a reason to tell anyone "please declutter my home."

Once you have organized your home, you probably think that the job is done. This is not true. Getting rid of the clutter and getting organized is only part of it.  The other part is maintaining organization.

How do you accomplish this? Analyze all of your future purchases. Is that really something you need? Or, will that only contribute to clutter? Also, remain organized by putting things up after you use them. This could extend to discarding items once they are no longer useable. If the desire is strong, you will get an organized house. Just learn how to do it daily and you will be successful. At that point, you will never say again, "I need to declutter my home."
