I've got to admit I permanently feel like I'm paying off debt when it comes to my horses! Last year I had to borrow some money to purchase a new horse which I was paying off for a few months, then after that was done I had to pay for a new horse trailer which again meant a few months of paying that off. I finally got on top of my bills and was doing well and my local farmer said he couldn't supply me hay any longer. It was a fantastic deal whilst it lasted and then I was left stuck. He used to drop off hay when I needed it and I could drop off the money at his house. It was great as I didn't need to pay for the whole winters worth up front. When he said he couldn't provide anymore I had to go elsewhere. As there was a delivery charge it made sense to purchase the whole winters worth so that I didn't keep spending money on delivery but this then meant I had a very large bill up front.
I normally go competing at weekends and my husband drove as I haven't got my B and E driving test. He went in for an operation and then couldn't drive for a long time so it pushed me into getting my license that was well over a thousand pounds to complete the course and test which meant that I had this bill in addition to the hay cost.
I've been paying that off for the last few months and then unfortunately I had to pay for a few new things when we moved yards last month. Along with things like fence posts I broke a few things in the move such as my
plastic stirrups. We where in a rush and piled everything in the car. My husband but something heavy on the plastic stirrups and didn't realise and they broke. I also ripped a new zealand turnout rug whilst moving it and unfortunately I need a
new zealand turnout rug to replace it quickly. I just don't have much luck and seem to be forever it debt!
