I Love Touring Venice Italy - Hotels In The Cannaregio District

By:

The Cannaregio district is the second largest of Venice's six districts, which are locally known as sestiere. It's in the north of Venice and, unlike some of the other districts, people actually live there. Cannaregio attractions include the Venice Ghetto, the Fourteenth Century Ca' d'Oro (or more properly the Palazzo Santa Sofia) which was literally a Golden House, Sacca della Misericordia, the Palazzo Labia, and the Casino di Venezia (Venice Casino). For your convenience we have listed these hotels in their approximate order of cost, starting with the least expensive. We have personally verified all website addresses making sure that they include English-language pages.

The family owned Al Palazzetto overlooks the San Sofia canal. It's quite close to the Ca' d'Oro, and you can easily walk to the Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco. Breakfast is served in the room. There are only 6 rooms, 2 suites, and 1 apartment. The hotel address is Calle delle Vele, Cannaregio 3969.

The 3749 Ponte Chiodo is a bed and breakfast located near a lovely bridge that still doesn't have a handrail. It lies just across the Grand Canal from the famous Rialto Fish and Spice Market. During the summer months they serve breakfast in the garden, the rest of the year it's served indoors. Guests have kitchen privileges for snacks. Be warned, there is no elevator and there are only 6 rooms. The hotel address is Calle Racchetta, Cannaregio 3749.

The Ca' Gottardi is situated in a Fifteenth Century palace. It is situated just off the Grand Canal near the Ca' d'Oro. Breakfast is served in a lovely room overlooking a canal. You should try to reserve early enough to stay in the main building rather than the annex. There are a total of 23 rooms and 5 suites. The hotel address is Strada Nova, Cannaregio 2283.

The Hotel Antico Doge has an extensive history which you can read on their website. Suffice it to say that this was the palazzo of a Venetian Doge. The neighborhood is lively, even at night. Make sure to look up at the frescoed ceiling when enjoying your breakfast buffet. There are 10 rooms, 9 junior suites, and 1 suite. The hotel address is Campo Santi Apostoli, Cannaregio 5643.

The Palazzo Abadessa is located in a luxurious Sixteenth Century palazzo. This is one posh joint, so you may have to watch the kiddies because the antique furniture and exquisite fabrics are just about everywhere. In the summer breakfast is served in a walled garden. There are 8 rooms and 5 suites. The hotel address is Calle Priuli off Strada Nova, Cannaregio 4011.
