I Have It. What About You?

By:

Thats right, I went to the doctor and the test came back positive. I have EDS which stands for Easily Distracted Syndrome. The symptoms are very simple. I get distracted by any and everything. I go from one thing to another in a matter of seconds which leaves tasks not completed.

My brain is always going, working hard. It is hard for me to keep a clear mind without a types of thoughts and ideas popping up in my head. Most of the stuff that goes on is good. Its just a matter of getting on hold on those thoughts and tackling them in some order.

Heres what the doctor told me to do to handle the situations.

1. Plan your day hour by hour. Make a plan of everything you need to do and stick to that plan. Make sure you complete certain task at the scheduled time. If you stick to this, it keeps you from straying and doing something that you shouldnt be doing at that specific time.

2. Be specific. When you make your plan, be specific about your task. If your need to work on a marketing campaign, write out that particular campaign and all of the things you need to do. Dont just put work on marketing. That could mean anything and as long as you are doing something marketing related, you will feel youre getting something done when in reality, you could have 20 different projects started and none completed.

3. Chunk it up. Dont try to do too much at one time. Break down big tasks into smaller, manageable task so you get a feel of accomplishment. When this is done, you are more motivated to stick with a task in order to get that rush of completing tasks.

4. Mix it up. Since you know your brain is moving fast and thoughts are constantly going in and out, put a variety of things on your to do list so you wont get board. If you have some variety, it will keep your brain stimulated and hopefully you will not wander off to do other things.

5. Eliminate distractions. You know its hard to stay focused so the fewer the distractions the better. An example would be Facebook. If you are working on the computer and you know you have to complete a sales page, dont open up your Facebook account because you know you will get on it and 2 hours later, you would have wasted time playing around when you should have been working.

If these tips dont help you with EDS, I dont know what will. It is a problem that many people face but if you work hard at it, you can overcome it. (smiles)

To YOUR Success,

Rodney
