Humidity In Your Home Could Mean Water Damage

By:

Just because you have plumbing that is in good condition does not mean you can not have water damage. Just because you do not live in a flood zone does not mean you can not get water damage. There is always the possibility that one of your water using appliances could go haywire and leak or flood or that someone might not run over a bathtub or sink somewhere in the home. Even if these things do not happen, you could get water damage from humidity.

Humidity can create moisture that can also cause some serious water damage in your house. Humidity can occur when you do not have adequate cooling in the home during the hot weather months or even in the wintertime. What causes it is when there is enough moisture and warmth in the air to cause dampness. When this goes on constantly or even often, it can cause serious issues such as damage to drywall, woodwork, carpeting, and other surfaces in the home. It can cause mold to grow wherever the moisture is the worst. It can get in certain types of insulation.

Moisture in the home can be made worse when there is not enough proper ventilation. Up in the attic is where there can be a lot of moisture. When the home below the attic is very cool and the attic is very hot, this can happen. It could affect the insulation, but it can also affect the wooden structure of your roof. It can cause the wooden beams of the attic to eventually bow or even rot causing your roof to begin sagging. When you go up into your attic and it feels very warm and moist, if you notice a musty odor, or if you see visible signs of roof leaks, it is important to get a water damage company out to check out the problem.

You might need to have ventilation of some kind installed to remove the moisture and keep it out. It might mean using dehumidifiers or installing exhaust fans where they are needed. When the attic beans become unstable or compromised because of moisture, it can eventually affect the rest of the home. This is also true if there is too much moisture in a basement. The one other issue that often causes moisture in the home is a lack of ventilation in the bathrooms or the kitchen. Any of these problems can cause damage to home materials and belongings. Mold will likely be an issue as well and this is the last thing you want to find in your house.
