Huaisheng Mosque - A Novel Tourist Experience

By:

Known as one of the five National Cities of the Peoples Republic of China, Guangzhou is located on the Pearl River in southern China. It is the capital of Guangdong province and the third largest city in China. Baiyun Mountain, which is referred to as the lung of the city by locals, is situated next to the centre of this city. The influence of the Asian monsoon has given Guangzhou a humid climate.

The most precious element in the city of Guangzhou is the Huaisheng Mosque, which is also called the Shizi or the Guangta Mosque. Legend has it that this edifice was built by the earliest disseminator of Islam, called Wan Gesi. It is also stated that this place of worship was created in memory of Mohammed, the founder of Islam.

Huaisheng Mosque, which is an ideal place to visit if you desire to gain some knowledge about Islamic culture in China, is one of the four most eminent mosques in China. Covering an area of about 3,000 square metres, the mosque compound features six main buildings; the covered corridor, the Imam Hall, the Wangyue Pavilion, the Pagoda of Light, the Stele Pavilion, the main hall, the water house and the ambulatory. The most illustrious building in the compound is the Pagoda of Light, which is sited facing the main hall. A helical staircase is conveniently built to be used by visitors for reaching the top of the Pagoda, on which a light has been put in place to act as a lighthouse at night for the ships navigating the area.

The Light Tower, which is inimitable in China has an internal stairway and a thick cylindrical masonry shaft. It has the influence of Arabic architectural flavour blended with local architectural styles. The Light Tower minaret served as the key landmark in Guangzhou and was the tallest structure in the city until of late. Accessing the balcony is made possible by two entwined staircases, a structural feat never seen before the Song Dynasty.

Huaisheng Mosque plays a very significant role in the Muslim life in Guangzhou even at present, welcoming the Muslim community from all over the world, including many travellers who visit Guanzhou and choose luxurious Guangzhou China hotel. While visiting the Huaisheng Mosque, you can also take a memorable ride on the Pearl River Night Cruise which is only a walking distance away from Shangri-La Hotel, Guangzhou and complete your Guangzhou experience to create a memory that you will savour. A quality Guangzhou hotel would be the perfect choice for you to settle into during your visit to the city, as it will certainly provide first-class accommodation.
