Htc Desire S Is The Long Awaited Update To Iconic Android Phone

By:

The HTC Desire was one of the biggest selling smartphones of 2010 and was the breakthrough device for the rapidly expanding phone manufacturer. Although the company had been around for some time and had had a few hit devices such as the Hero and Legend, the Desire was the smartphone that propelled them to the forefront of the industry.

It would come as no surprise then that HTC would plan on releasing more smartphones into this range and while there was the earlier Desire HD and Desire Z, the Desire S is the first handset that can truly be thought of as the sequel. Even though this is the case, the Desire S does not represent a gigantic leap from its predecessor in terms of features as HTC seem to have adopted the mantra of 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'.

Physically the Desire S is entirely the same as the original. With the same appearance and design the only difference is that the new handset is slightly smaller than the original. This makes the Desire S even more comfortable to hold and one of the most pocketable Android smartphones on the market.

One feature that many were expecting with this latest Desire phone was a dual core processor, although HTC instead opted to save those for its later EVO 3D and Sensation handsets. In terms of processing power the latest Desire has not seen a change with a similar 1GHz Scorpion processor, although memory has been increased to 768MB.

The Desire S comes with the same excellent messaging and entertainment features as its original, being an ideal phone for all forms of online activities. There is a fantastic web browser and the phone comes with support for Flash, YouTube and many social networks such as Facebook. Getting online is easy thanks to the speedy 3G and Wi-Fi connections available.

One of the most noticeable improvements from the original is the inclusion of Android Gingerbread which comes with a number of significant improvements since the clair that was found on the original Desire. This smartphone likewise comes with HTC Sense interface that is found on the majority of HTC's touchscreen smartphones and has been rated by many users as the best Android interface in general use.

The Desire S has an excellent 3.7" Super LCD screen that has a gorgeous colour depth and high WVGA resolution that makes it perfect for web browsing and video content, including online content and 720p video that you can record on the phone's 5 megapixel camera.

It is easy to look at the Desire S and consider that it does not offer many significant changes to the original smartphone that caused such a sensation in 2010. While this may be considered a weakness by many it is also the phone's main strength. The Desire S does everything that the original did but brushes up a few areas to make them more desirable in this day and age, most noticeably by featuring a much more contemporary version of Google Android.
