How To Prevent A Dog Fashion Faux Pas

By: Anthony Staniforth

Let me start this article with a few cautionary words about how to select the perfect coat for a dog.In the last few years a lot of people talk of dogs having a "sixth sense" which enables them to relate to human emotions. Now I don't know whether this is the case or not. I do know for certain however that dogs certainly have a sixth sense when it comes to fashion.Yes they know what does and doesn't look good on the catwalk (or should that be dog walk)so for goodness sake get your four legged friend a decent designer dog coat!

Why Dog Coats Matter In a world rife with variety in every sector of life, dog coats are no exception. There are a myriad of different types of dog coat. You have the good old fashion all in one dog coat, the city dog coat, the arsenal dog coat and the all weather dog coat. There are now thankfully many designer dog coats available on the market. Whereas in the old days, you had to clothe your canine in mainly unexciting and uninspired fare, today is truly a different era. Owners of dogs no longer see them as differing from their owners. They see their pets as deserving all of the same luxuries and tastes as any sensitive human being would demand. This has given birth a sort of renaissance, if you will, of doggy shoes, doggy bonnets, doggy trousers and of course dog coats. Given this overall effusion of excitement, I'm sure that you and your dog are just dying to join in on the fun.

Here are the two main elements that you should look for in a dog coat:

1. Function. We must admit, function is secondary when choosing a dog coat. It's just not the main attraction. However, if you live in a cold climate and don't want to have to leave your best friend at home when you take your morning jog, a high quality warm and insulated dog coat really is a necessity. For a highly functional dog coat that will keep your canine warm in any whether, a wool-based coat is one of the best options. This material will keep that little pooch warm and comfy regardless of the harshness of the weather.

2. Fashion. Now this is the really important category. Leave function behind if you have to, but NEVER leave fashion behind. Dressing your dog in an ugly coat is just wrong. It is - and I do not exaggerate - the eighth deadly sin. Looking cool should be the first word in the dog coat decision making process. Always choose patters and colours that complement your dog's fur, eyes, and temperament. Also, do not make the mistake of thinking that your dog does not care what he or she is wearing. (Believe me; I know this from personal experience. If your ask you pet to wear a dog coat he or she doesn't like the little darling will let you know in no uncertain terms. This is uncanny, but true!)

In conclusion, remember that really putting thought into your decision is a huge part of what it means to really care for your dog. Don't rush, think about the ideal way to express your dog's personality through fashion and choose a super dog coat. It's that simple!
