How to Recover Claims for Head Injury

Due to possible serious complications, our head is the last part of the body that we want to be injured. Head injury may occur in cases of, but are not limited to, the following:

- A headache that gets worse or does not go away

- Severe head or facial bleeding

- Change in level of consciousness for more than few seconds

- Black and blue discoloration below the eyes or behind the ears

- Cessation of breathing

- Confusion

- Loss of balance

- Repeated vomiting or nausea

- Convulsions or seizures

- An inability to awaken from sleep

- Dilation of one or both pupils and the eyes

- Slurred speech

- Weakness or numbness in the arms or legs

- Loss of coordination

- Increased confusion, restlessness or agitation

If one of these symptoms occurs, dial 911 or call for medical emergency assistance right away.

The agency also advices to keep the person still until the medical help arrive. Keep the injured person lying down and quiet in a darkened room, with the head and shoulders slightly elevated. Do not move the person unless necessary and avoid moving the person's neck.

If there is bleeding, apply firm pressure to the wound with sterile gauze or a clean cloth. However, do not apply direct pressure on the wound if you suspect a skull surface.

If the person shows no sign of circulation such as breathing, coughing and movement, begin CPR.
