How plastic containers solved my moving day blues

By: Roberto Bell

Moving day was rapidly approaching. My girlfriend and I had found the most amazing flat which had the dual benefit of being close enough to both our new jobs to eliminate transport and sporting the modern aesthetics' we both craved. It took months of wrangling to optout of our original leases, yet once that problem was out of the way it appeared that it would be smooth sailing from one place to another. All we needed were the necessary plastic containers to pack our valuables into. The days of cardboard boxes breaking open are a thing of the past, thanks to these space-age storage boxes that would safely hold our valuables until we unpacked them. I am not one to give praise to such a humble creation, yet I must give these plastic boxes their due, as their space saving design and tight lids saved my goods from any possible damage.

A week before at my girlfriends apartment in the suburbs, we packed her clothing, toiletries, kitchenware, etc into various cardboard boxes with much squeezing and packing of items. Everything was going as planned until we attempted to lift the flimsy boxes, and the contents came spilling out onto the floor. "We need more something more reliable then this", I said. It was at very moment an idea formulated. The hardware store near her flat had a sale on and I'd bet to myself that my solution lay in that musty old store. It was a Saturday and a particularly dry one at that. We emptied the boot of our car in preparation for new items and drove in the direction of the homeware store. Once inside, a variety of options presented themselves to us. There were large metal crates, bulky wooden ones and puzzlingly enough, see-through Plexiglas ones for those who do not favour privacy. Near the back-end of the store we uncovered the true treasure chest, a multitude of large plastic storage boxes. A rainbow of boxes ranging from tiny to humongous begged to be purchased. I selected eight wheeled bins which were easily stackable and my girlfriend did the same, only each one was a different colour

After the purchase of the plastic storage boxes our task of packing became much, much easier. The lids flip open smoothly and it loves to be filled with all and any materials we may have. Once the packing was complete (a day and a half later) we simply wheeled the plastic containers into a corner, stacked them on top of each other and cleaned the apartment for the next occupant. The packing for my apartment was slightly trickier. Although I possessed a large and spacious home, the corridors were tiny, barely wide enough for two people to walk sidebyside. This meant that after I had completed packing my countless number of gadgets and jeans, I would have no room to move more than one of the large plastic boxes at a time. Time was at an essence, so my former roommate and I worked throughout the night, packing plastic containers and slowly lowering them one at a time over my balcony and into the moving truck. It was a long and horrible experience.

The pay-off at the end was worth it though. Thanks to the various large plastic containers, we had successfully and easily moved from one flat to another, with little to no collateral damage. My storage boxes are now packed away, eager for the next move where they will undoubtedly be unpacked then re-packed with all my goods. Cardboard boxes, I will not mourn your passing.

Usually, any Realtor who hears this manages to dredge up a ghastly smile from somewhere as they agree that, yes, it is nice to be able to buy your quadruple-espresso-with-an-added-shot-of-caffeine at any time during the day instead of being cruelly confined to the lunch hour. However, they may add, it also means that you can get swamped by work when your friends are gaily preparing for the bar after their jobs end at 5 PM.

Balance seems to be a major goal in modern life. Balancing what we want to do and what we need to do. Balancing what we need to eat and what sounds good at the time. When you are balancing something (like standing on one foot), are you stable, secure, and making any progress? Probably not, balance is a state of stagnation, a state of maintaining what already is.

These people are missing out on a lot of benefits that they can get by getting up earlier. Getting up several hours ahead of office hours or school provides you more time to gear up or compose yourself. This well-earned time can be utilized by exercising and going to the gym, which I think would be best done early morning.

As data streams flow across the network, the sniffer captures each packet and eventually decodes and analyzes its content according to the appropriate RFC or other specifications.
  • Different views on Time Management By: kamaldeep - Most people think of time management as a system for organizing the day or week in order to maximize efficiency. I'd like to propose a different view of time management that is complimentary to the traditional view but has far greater implications for your quality of life. Rather than viewing time on the small scale of a day or a week or a month or even a year let's think of how effective your time has been over a lifetime. There are 8,766 hours in an average year.

  • Time Management - Create More Time Every Day By: Darren.Bourke - Time - the most precious of resources. It can not be increased nor recreated when lost. A finite resource that is delivered in equal installments of 24 hours each day. Given time is a fixed commodity; we must improve at getting more done in less time. So.... what can you do differently tomorrow to manage your time better? Let's start with you. As Jerry Seinfeld famously put it "The morning guy doesn't like the night guy" referring to what he is like in the morning after staying up late.
  • Storage containers make life easy By: Roberto Bell - In my line of work, there’s no time for messing around. The work comes quick and if you aren’t careful, it’ll smack you, right in the face. I’m a docks foreman; and transport, storage and safety are my business. All it takes is one mistake, just one and you’re history. I’ve seen many accidents in my time and I can put it down to misbehavior and mischief. This is why I preach the usage of adequate storage containers. Everything has its place in life; at the home, in the office and on site.
