How Young Is Too Young For Your Kids To Begin To Date

By:

Things really have not changed all that much over the years when it comes to little boys and girls liking each other. However, things have changed in as far as how bold they can be when it comes to showing their feelings. Little boys and girls as well in the olden days, as they are commonly referred to, were a little more bashful when it came to actually letting their feelings be known. In case you do not have a seven or eight year old kid around your house, these days they will talk openly about liking this boy or that girl and in most cases they do not appear to be bashful about it at all. Things have changed in that way.

It might be that things are more open and more talked about like sex and dating. Relationships between adults are more out in the open and things are not as hidden from children as they used to be. Divorce between parents is common and kids just get a bigger and more honest picture of love and how it works and how it sometimes does not. By the time a child reaches high school these days, they might have already had a number of boyfriends or girlfriends under their belt and believe that they already know all about love. But does that necessarily mean that they are ready to date at the age of thirteen or fourteen?

Some parents are very strict about what age their child, be it a boy or girl, can begin to go on actual dates. Having a boyfriend or girlfriend over to the house to eat dinner or to study after school is one thing, but being taken to the movies and dropped off by parents and even that being considered a real unchaperoned date might be too early for a lot of parent's taste. It is a fine line that a parent has to walk in order to maintain control over the dating situation and stay on good terms with their preteen or teen at the same time.

It is up to each individual parent to decide when this should be and not necessarily according to the maturity of a kid. A fourteen year old girl might be responsible enough to go to the movies unchaperoned, but is the boy she is going with ready? Can either one really be trusted to always do the right thing and not get into trouble? Temptations for things like sex and drugs seem to be coming at children earlier all of the time. It is important that you protect the well being of your child and their future first even if it means they might not like you a lot on their journey to getting older.
