Solar power energy is a type of renewal energy, gained by harnessing the light and heat obtained from the sun using various types of technologies. Photovoltaic cells depend on semi-conductors such as silicon to directly convert solar energy into electricity. Individual cells are grouped into panels and can be used for a range of applications; such as, calculator batteries and watch batteries. In a solar power plant, heat from the sun is used to warm a fluid and the steam produced, is used to power the generator.

This energy can also be used to heat homes, buildings, swimming pools as well as greenhouses. In a home, the solar panels are usually installed on top of the roof where it can get direct sunlight. An electric field is created when light falls on the cells. The stronger the sunlight, the more electricity is produced.

Solar power energy provides you with lots of advantages. It is a renewable form of energy and it does not emit any harmful green house gases or other pollutants. It is estimated that a single home can save about 1200kg of Co2 per year. Besides this, sunlight is free and it does not cost you any extra fuel cost. A single PV device can produce approximately 40% of your yearly electricity requirement. Besides this, if your system produces more electricity than you want, you can sell the excess electricity.

This type of energy is environmentally friendly and at the same time cost effective. It will save you a lot of money; hence it will have a positive effect on your cash flow. Although it costs around 8,000 to 14,000 pounds for the installation of a solar electricity system, it can save around 200 pounds from your electricity bill and a tonne of Co2 per year.
