How You Can Turn A Profit From Your Treasure Hunting Hobby

How would you like to have a hobby that gets you outside into the sunshine and fresh air, yet still offers you plenty of opportunities for fun, excitement and possibly even a profit? If it all sounds good to you, you should look into treasure hunting. You can start having fun right away with just a small investment into either a used or affordable new metal detector that you can take to the park or the beach, uncovering a treasure trove of coins, jewelry and possibly even long-lost relics. Some people choose to hunt at different locations, such as old sites with a lot of history or new places where a lot of people hang out and drop items.

All metal detectors will work in almost the exact same way, however there are specific types of detectors that will work for specialized needs. A metal detector works by transmitting an electromagnetic pulse via a coil or search head into the ground as a means of detecting objects made of metal that have their own magnetic fields which, in turn, send back a current of electricity to the coil. The signal frequency of the item is then sent to the control box of the metal detector and amplified so the depth of the item can be effectively determined. You can purchase specialized metal detectors that will even alert you as to the specific type of metal that you have discovered, which is great if you are only looking for gold or some other special type of metal.

The size of the area that can be searched with each sweep is determined by the diameter of the search head itself. Before you go on a hunt you should know the maximum single pass scanning area of your device so you can know how much space to leave between each sweep to avoid repeating a scan or missing an item. You can test the sweep area of your metal detector yourself by placing a coin on the ground and passing the search mechanism over the area where the coin has been placed to see how far you can move away and still get a signal. After you practice your techniques you should be able to use your detector efficiently to effectively search the target area.

You should pick the area you want to search based upon the items or treasures that you would like to find. Old sites where historical battles occurred are a great place to find treasures such as old coins and ancient artifacts. You will usually be able to find a lot of jewelry and coins in rural areas near churches and schools. Once you decide what you want to find it makes it easier to know where to search, for example more contemporary pieces can be found at popular gathering spots like beaches, parks and other similar areas, where you can find watches, necklaces, rings or modern currency. The best areas of all are beaches, fairgrounds and other festival locations.

You would be hard pressed to find another hobby that combines so much fun, relaxation, unique interest and obvious reward as metal detector treasure hunting. It is a hobby that can be shared with the entire family and is a great way to incorporate entertainment and education into a vacation or weekend adventure.
