A dear friend of mine was not doing so well. She seemed to be having more health problems recently and started to feel a little down as a result. I could only imagine what it must have been like to have the reality sink in that you couldn't do the same things you used to do . . . Simple things, like checking the mail, or even just going from one room to the other.
If this sounds familiar, trust me when I say that there's hope. It doesn't matter whether you're overweight, have a medical condition, or just that you've gotten a little older, if you do what she did, you'll feel back to your old self again. She'll vouch for that.
It didn't happen overnight, but once she accepted that she had to have a wheelchair, that was the first step (no pun intended). Getting a wheelchair to her represented the idea that it was over, that the disease won, and that she had given up. It took a little persuasion, but she eventually warmed up to the idea of owning one. Her whole demeanor started to change.
We found more than what we were looking for right away, from jazzy wheelchairs to lightweight wheelchairs, to mobility power chairs, there wasn't much we didn't find. We were not disappointed at all. These wheelchairs had a lot of features, and were attractive too. You could add whatever accessories you needed to make your chair more comfortable. My friend started to like the idea of wheelchairs more and more. The power chair she liked the most seemed to be the Jazzy electric wheel chair. She picked out he basket and cupholder as accessories, and also picked out a nice color.
When the wheelchair came to her door, it took a little adjusting. Despite a couple of mishaps, she managed to learn how to use it quite well, and is now operating it without problems. After some time, she got really good at it and now she's a pro.
Since she has regained her freedom, it has has dramatically affected her sense of happiness and dignity.
