My father thought it was a good idea when I was growing up to have certain rules regarding child's play. While now, as a parent, I can understand some of his reasoning, as a young child, the rules were completely mystifying. Why were there rules about cleaning my room? It was just going to get dirty again.

Why did I need to get changed from day clothes into pajamas? It meant more changes of clothes and my bed wasn't going to be made if I slept in it, right? I was not a very tidy child.
