Do you know how wetness can cause mold growth? Or how bad it can get? You have to watch what you are doing when it come to things that are wet because it can cause damage to your home. The smallest amount of wetness can be bad because it can soak into almost any surface in your home. Water damage to the home can happen in a variety of different ways. Some you might can plainly see and others you might not even know are there. You can get damage to clothes that are left damp too long, moisture can be in the air of your home due to lack of proper ventilation, and even by using too much water when cleaning or mopping.

You have to watch what you are doing so no wetness will adversely effect your home. You can get wetness in the utility room, basement, kitchen, and bathroom. It can come from some of your appliances when you are cooking, drying, or if they have damage that causes them to leak. It is good to have an air conditioner in your house so if it gets really hot outside, the humidity will not cause moisture in your house and wetness to set in. After moisture sets in, mold can start to grow with in 48 hours because mold like wetness and warmth.

Mold needs water, warmth, and food to grow. When moisture lingers in your home the damages can affect a big area of your home. Home insurance will usually cover moisture damage. Excessive moisture can cause your floors to become weak which can cause them to creek, slant, or crack depending on the surface. Mopping and leaving too much water on the floor can end up causing rotting to the sub-floor underneath a floor covering if it gets to it and mold can be caused as well. This is one place where you might have water damage and mold that you can not see.

If you have a moisture problem you will need to get remedied before it can get worse. This might mean you need to install exhaust fans or dehumidifiers or both. Use caution when you clean so you do not over saturate surfaces like hardwood floors or carpets. Of course, you always need to check your home occasionally for water leaks in the plumbing. The roof and foundation need to be checked as well for any where water might be getting in. Too much water around the foundation or getting through the roof can cause serious structural problems for the home.
