One of the keys to strong management is longevity and consistency. As the owner/manager of VENDORS' FLEA MARKET, I've been in the sub-leasing business, be it jewellery exchanges or flea markets, since 1979 which is longer than any other owner/manager of a flea market in Ontario Canada.

The flea market business has changed dramatically over the past 20 years: we lost our Sunday shopping exclusivity back in 1992 and we witnessed the introduction of "big-box" stores in Ontario in the mid 1990's. Since this transition, the days of flea market vendors being able to simply go to local suppliers and be competitive are through.

It takes strong, experienced management to guide vendors through these changes and VENDORS' FLEA MARKET has had essentially the same staff for over 10 years. This personnel continuity creates trust between vendors and Management, and provides the foundation for being progressive in the changing business. When management has a high turn-over rate, the goals and requirements change too often for progress to be made.

In the same way, long-term vendors create trust between themselves and their customers. For example, if a customer is considering the purchase of a 2 carat diamond ring or an $800 leather jacket, he/she wants to know that this vendor will be there a month from now, should a problem with their purchase arise.

A large percentage of our vendors have been with us for over 10 years, and some as long as 20 years!!

Long-term vendors = larger ticket sales. Simple.

VENDORS' FLEA MARKET also has a great location. We're located at the virtual vortex of 6 different highways. And, as we all know, retail is all about LOCATION, LOCATION, and LOCATION. Being easy to access for both local customers and our many tourist visitors allows for maximum traffic for our vendors each weekend.

However, strong management and a great location are not enough these days to create a strong, enduring Flea Marketplace...strong promotional skills are also very important.

We are the only Flea Market in Ontario actively using "social media' to bring increased value to our Vendors. By starting and growing our online presence, we will continue to bring the most value to our Vendors, and the best deals to our customers!

Also, plugging vendors into the latest technologies is crucial, and our Vendors have access to on-site web access during business hours.
