How Upcoming Events Attract A Crowd

By:

There are many ways that people find out about upcoming events in their area. Some are likely to be discovered as a result of advertising or exposure to the information, other times people will learn about local concerts because friends invite them to go. With local festivals that occur each year, a lot of the audience is repeat from year to year while others plan their travels to coincide with such events, especially art or music focused events. So, it isn't as if there is just one way in which people learn about events. Most people are a mix of all of these. They might follow their favorite bands to see when they are going to play and look through local publications to learn about upcoming events when they have a long weekend as well as learn about gigs at local bars from friends and neighbors. That kind of a balance can be expected and so for those looking to market to a larger audience, it will be helpful to ensure that you are reaching people in as many of these ways as possible.

Reaching your audience through various forms of media is certainly one way to ensure that you are getting the word out successfully. Using the Internet is very important for most campaigns now as this is not only the most popular and well-frequented form of media available, but it is one that allows for a lot of communication between users. By playing your cards right you can work towards having your events more or less promote themselves through social networking and community event sharing. One very important consideration when putting the word out there is timing. Timing is key, especially when it comes to budgets. Obviously, if you start way too early then you're wasting money. If you start too late you risk not being able to entice people to join you at the event because they already have plans and commitments, or they just plain don't find out in time to attend the event. So, time your announcement so that it serves you and your budget as well as your audience. A little bit of market research can go a long way in determining what good timing actually is. How early do people purchase tickets? How far in advance do people look at lineups? How does that timeline differ when you are looking at a festival vs a concert vs an art event?
