How Tough Can Life Be, Without Insurance?

In my day day I was all a man can be. I had my good looks, my health, a great job that had all the benefits. My personal life started to go down hill and that started making things worse on the job.

As time passed I learned that the root of most of my issues were caused by the fact that I contracted HIV. I left the firm on good terms even while my performance started to drop. What I was facing was I could not take the insurance policy with me because it was provided strictly through the employer. I was able to go on COBRA (a grace period after you terminate your employment that you remain covered but have to pay for it personally) but was forced to take a job that had no benefits but paid very well. I had to do whatever to maintain the Insurance that was about to expire.

I struggle with the fact that in the next few years I may be facing Aids. Not much family to count on, no wife and kids, a sister down south. Mom is suffering from Alzheimer's and it won't be long. She's getting old and is relying on me. Luckily for Medicare and Social Security, Dad's life insurance also is really helping out.

The thought of being uninsured and unable to get insurance due to a pre-existing condition is very frightening to me. Who knows how fast I may start to deteriorate and not be able to fend for my self.

You never know what can happen. I tend to be positive and am looking for agencies and programs that will help. I am going to fight as hard as I can, who knows I may be insured in the near future. If I live to see health reform one day there may be a plan for me and many others who need it. I never thought that I would be in the situation that I am in and I guess most people can't ether. I really find hard to believe is I know a several clients that are in the medical industry, some doctors, a dentist and even a pharmacist and they don't think we have a problem with our health care system. Unless you experience it you would not ether.
