Writing great content is the secret to being a successful online marketer; but how do grab the attention of the time poor reader who doesn't have a lot of spare time and just wants someone to solve his problems? Your role as an article writer is to grab their attention, deliver your point succinctly, get them hooked and then tell you what more you can do to help them.

You don't have to have an A in English to be able to write effective articles, you just need to know a few secret ingredients, which I am about to share with you.

1. Good content

Your content needs to help the reader solve his problem so it needs to be functional and written in a way that's easily understood. Don't bury the reader in jargon, just walk them through the solution step-by-step.

You want the reader to walk away from your article having learned something or solved a problem. The more useful your content is the more likely they will want to find out what else you have to offer.

2. Conversational tone

The most engaging articles are written in a conversational tone. Talk to your readers as you would to a friend; this will help you to establish a connection. By building up a trusted relationship with your reader you are building your credibility with them.

3. Excite your readers

Avoid using big words and a dry tone that will just bore your readers. Keeping the content light and easy to grasp will increase the chances of them staying engaged right up to the very end of the article.

4. Short paragraphs

When reading content online a lot of white space on the page makes it easier to read and understand. Make your article easier on the eye by breaking the content up into short paragraphs.

Use sub-headings to make it easy for the reader to scan the article and find the sections that he wants to read in more detail.

5. Make the reader feel important

Use the word 'you' throughout the article to engage the reader and make them feel that you are talking to them directly. By making them feel more involved in the article they are more likely to stick around and read what you have to say.

6. Make the most of your resource box

If you are writing articles to submit to article directories then you will want to make the most of your resource box. This is your opportunity to sell the click to your website. Don't waste time talking about yourself and why you are such an expert, instead tell the reader what else you have to offer them and what other problems you can help them to solve.
