How To Wear A Tie Bar With Your Necktie

By:

One of the ways wherein you can hype up the look of your necktie is by using a tie bar. It is an excellent accessory that can give your necktie a twist to it. Nowadays, tie bars are no longer accessories that only your grandparents will wear. In fact, there are already tie-bars that are sold in different colors and with funky designs. Even yuppies are seen with tie bars on. While it serves a certain purpose, others just want to make a difference or create a fashion statement out of it.

Also known as a tie-slide, the bar is a thin piece of metal that is used in fixing one's necktie with the shirt. If you think that wearing it is as easy as ABC, think again because it takes some effort to be able to wear it perfectly. Thus, here are helpful steps on how to properly wear this bar.

1. Before putting a tie bar, make sure that what you have is one that matches your tie. In fact, the more prominent is your tie bar's color, the more it looks stylish. Likewise, you also need to consider the width of the tie bar that you will be using. Ideally, it must not cover more than three fourths of your tie's width.

2. Once you have decided on a style, straighten the die by pulling it up to your shirt's collar. Since it is the last to be put on, shirt must already be tucked in, collars straightened and all the other accessories properly worn. Of course, you do not want to make necessary adjustments anymore after the tie bar has been inserted.

3. At the back of the bar is a small hinge. Pinch the bar open and slid it over the silktie. In which case, the back portion of the bar is nestled under the dress shirt while the other side of the bar is found over the necktie's front. Once the pinch is released, the tie-bar is safe and secure on the shirt and the tie.

4. Traditionally, tie bars are placed between the shirt's fourth and fifth button plackets. As such, it must be placed between the abs and the pectoral muscles. However, others tilt theirs at 45 degrees downward whereby, it is safely secured between the third and fourth buttons.

While it is true that a necktie bar comes as a perfect accessory that will properly position your tie, it has certain limitations too. As such, it can only be used for regular or skinny ties. It will not look good on a bolo. Secondly, the bar must not be worn with a pocket square. Although others are seen with both accessories on, having just one accessory on your suit will be more than enough to perk up your outfit. More importantly, never wear a tie bar with a chain unless you want to look like somebody who just stepped out of a magazine from the 1960s.
