The way you light the room can set the tone for the room. If you want a room that feels cheery then you need bright lights.

Lamps that put off dim light will usually make a room mysterious and dreary. It is alright for a bedroom to have dim lighting but kitchens and living rooms should have bright light. The shade on the lamp will also determine how bright the light is.

When a lamp has a shade made of glass or thin material then it gives off a lot of light. Dark colored shades and shades with thick material make the light look dim and gloomy.
