How To Use Men's Fashion To Look Taller

By:

Most men have the same problems as their female counterparts when looking at clothes on the runway. Men's fashion looks phenomenal because it is being worn by tall, slender male models. This is not a big deal if you are also tall and slender, but what do you do if you are not as tall as you would like to be? Men who are below 5'8" in height may face certain challenges that their taller counterparts may not be dealing with.

If you fall into this category, making the most of the height that you do have is likely a top priority. However, you should know that there are a few techniques that will make it easy for you to look as long and lean as possible.

The first key to finding the right men's fashion pieces for shorter men is to make sure your clothing fits. Unfortunately, this means that you will need to try the pieces you are considering on to see how they fit you. Forget leg length, you want to make sure that the rise on the pants is correct. The rise is how far up your body the waistband sits. Some pants have a very high rise and this may be a problem for shorter men. Once you know that the rise is correct you can then you can have the leg length tailored.

You also want to make sure that any jacket you purchase fits well. Again, worry about sleeve length later. You need to make sure that the jacket fits properly in the shoulder region and that the stance of the jacket is not too high. If a jacket is too bulky and it does not fit correctly in the shoulder area, move on since these areas are much harder to tailor.

Once you understand fit, you need to learn about color and pattern. The color of your pants, jackets and shirts is not a huge issue. Many men may think that darker colors make them look thinner, and that lighter colors can make them look taller. This is not the case. What you do need to consider is how to make yourself look long and lean and how to avoid breaking up the line of the body.

The answer is to use colors that are all within the same color palette. Neutral colors that extend the length of the body in an unbroken line will really help to add inches, at least visually. By breaking up the body with blocks of color, you can actually cause problems with the proportions of your body and this can make you look shorter. You don't need to dress in the same color from head to toe but if they all work and blend together well, you have the right outfit.

The proportion of prints is also important for very short men. A large print can be distracting and overwhelming but a small print will end up making you look lean and long. Coupled with a neutral colored outfit that extends in an unbroken line and you really have a winning combination.

Learning how to dress the body you have to make the most of it is the secret to great men's fashion. By using clothing effectively you may be amazed at just how good your body can look.
