How To Turn Your Spare Time Into Spare Cash

By:

With daily reminders that we are living in an economic recession, the worst since the Great Depression, social morale is understandably low. The media forces statistics of inflation, house prices and lending patterns so as we just cannot ignore it. The recession is everywhere we turn, forcing us to lead a life of worry and over-cautiousness.

Surely there are more pressing things to be worrying about as an individual? We have no power to significantly make a difference to the economic revival, so shouldn't we just leave it to the Government and professionals? Personally, I'm far more interested in the state of my own personal finances. The New Year brings with it the aftermath of an expensive party season, and with my bank balance strained, one New Year's resolution I intend to keep is to regain control of my incomings and outgoings.

We all know that in order to tackle the January Debt hangover, we have to limit our spending habits, but how often do we think about maximising our income in an attempt to tackle our financial and debt management? There are so many ways to maximise your income whilst also ensuring that your lifestyle doesn't get hit too hard.

The first thing that may spring to mind when we talk about maximising earnings is to volunteer for overtime until the debt is repaid. Some may even consider taking on a second job, say a Saturday job or a part time job that takes up just a few evenings in a week. However, earning additional money doesn't have to be dull and boring. Be a little creative, there are so many other opportunities out there to make some quick cash.

The first way in which you could earn an extra bit of cash is by taking part in Market Research. This can usually be done from the comfort of your own home. There are so many online companies that offer money for the simple completion of questionnaires and surveys. It needn't take up a large chunk of your time either; most online surveys take no longer than 15 minutes to complete and as they are online, you have a huge amount of flexibility with when you take part. Another similar way to maximise your income is to take part in Mystery Shopper work, which does not require a huge level of skills or experience. Mystery Shopper work usually works around your own existing schedule, so you can also take part whenever you are free.

A second option to earn an extra bit of money is to consider if home delivery could provide you with an additional income. You could enquire at your local takeaway or at a larger chain such as Pizza Hut. Or if that isn't quite your cup of tea, perhaps becoming an agent for businesses such as the Home Delivery Network could be a better option for you?

If you enjoy a spot of DIY around the house, or the odd bit of gardening, then you could earn yourself a extra bit of money by advertising your services to others in your local area. Those who are less able to complete jobs such as repainting rooms, weeding the garden or assembling furniture will happily pay money for you to complete jobs for them.

Maybe you feel you are better at the weekly housework rather than general DIY? In this case, you can still offer housework services to people who perhaps struggle to keep on top of their own housework. If you don't mind cleaning, then grab those marigolds and offer to clean someone else's home. If you are willing to do some additional laundry tasks such as washing and ironing, then place an advert on your local community board.

If none of the above examples are quite your kettle of fish, then, be a little creative. What hobbies do you have? Or how do you usually fill your spare time? It could well be that you can earn money simply from doing something you love. If you never leave the house without a camera, or you love to write down your thoughts (maybe you keep a diary or a record of your dreams) then you should certainly consider entering the freelancing fields. Companies will pay surprisingly high amounts to have you freelance for them.

Don't let the January Debt Hangover leave you feeling that you will never be able to regain control of your finances. Be proactive and creative. Look at your skills and hobbies and plan how you can transform them into extra cash.
