If youre thinking about renovations, improvements or a potential sale of your house, where are you going to turn? If you have are like most families, youre going to get out your checklist and hit the kitchen and bathroom. These two spots are ripe for improvements, as they see a lot of action on a daily basis. If you and your family are revving up the stove often, that principle will apply even more so. Dont be fazed by wear and tear to your kitchen: here is a recipe for renovating in 5 easy steps.

1. Get the broken tiles and other quick fixes out of the way first. Do you have any obvious starting points in the kitchen? It might be some tiles around the sink or some other spot that simply cries out for a quick fix. Take care of these items first so you arent always working a bit backwards. It will give you some fresh perspective on the matter and immediately improve the image of the entire room.

2. Tackle the fixtures next. Did you know you dont have to replace your sink entirely to get a totally different look out of this spot in the room? Sometimes, replacing the main fixture is going to get the job done. Look at the variety of sink heads available now. Youll see that pulling out the entire sink is certainly not necessary.

3. Replace countertops on the thin side. Once your countertops start to wear down, it is only a matter of time before the situation really gets out of hand. Dont wait forever on this count. You dont have to get granite to make your kitchen look really great. All sorts of natural and engineered stone options are on the table, plus acrylic surfaces and other materials which will make you happy. Check with a countertop specialist so you dont get a narrow view of whats on the market.

4. Have cabinets refaced. Of all the things which can make a difference in the room, renovating your cabinets may make the biggest impact of all. They are quite simply omnipresent in the room, covering large areas around the sink, above and below it. Some people decide that minimizing the number of cabinets in the room is the way to go, which opens up a lot of space. No matter what you do, putting a new face on the cabinets is going to make thing shiny and new on the whole.

5. Add a fresh coat of paint and take stock. Once you have made your moves, its time to see where you stand. The best way to do this is to put on a fresh coat of paint (or two) in the kitchen. Youll not only see where you stand as far as your improvements go; youll be making a significant improvement at the same time. Take the opportunity to see how your color coordination can make it all come together.
