It may be time to seek a better job if you're bored with your current job or feel you're stuck in a no-win situation with no chance of advancement. Just don't give up your day job yet. At least until you've found something better unless you have a working spouse who's very understanding.

Asking yourself what you'd like to be doing is also a good idea. Your special interests and skills are the things you need to consider. In the present time and at school, where did you excel? Near and long term goals are the things you need to set.

Start with examining your present job to see if there's any chance of advancement or change of jobs within the company. Talk with your boss or company counselor to find out your options.

Don't threaten them with leaving or express unhappiness with what you're doing. Ask them if they can help you because you want to do better. Helping you be the best you can be is what most companies will do. After all, it's for the better of the company if the employer wants to do better.

If you're not qualified with what you want then attend school, take special classes, or read books to get qualified. When it comes to your job expectation, you need to be realistic. There are some people who would start at the top. Update your resume, highlighting your strengths and education. If you prepare the resume yourself double-check it for accuracy and neatness.

A good interview can be your springboard to a new and better job. Take extra care with the way you're dressed and make sure it's appropriate to the job you're seeking. Better to dress up than dress down. For the position you're applying for, you need to make good eye contact and show enthusiasm and knowledge. Avoid speaking badly about your former or current employer.

Your special interest and hobby can also be turned into a career. Perhaps you could start out converting your hobby into a money making venture while continuing your present job. Your pastime could also be good source of income.

If you like making jewelry, sell it at an on-line auction or craft fair. Or, use your jewelry expertise to become a jewelry salesperson at a local store and perhaps advancing to a jewelry buyer or repair person.

Another hobby that offers many opportunities is writing and as long as you have a laptop you can do this at home or anywhere you want. If you're a travel writer, you may not get rich but you will get some perks like eating for free or traveling.

Ghostwriters to write interesting articles and sales letters are what some entrepreneurs who sell things online are looking for. Good copywriters are always in demand to work from home or at an advertising agency.

Talents such as dancing, gardening or being good with animals all offer many opportunities to transform these hobbies into moneymakers or job changers. You can check the ads if you want to see if there are jobs being offered in these related fields. It takes time and effort to get a better job. But, if you're not happy with your current place of employment it will be worth it. Searching for a new job will be all up to you.
