How To Turn A Space In Your Home Into A Sanctuary

By:

Your home should be a place where you can relax and unwind. At the end of a long day you can come home feeling stressed and after a few minutes in your own space, the stress can just slip away. Once inside of your home, the outside world should not be able to bother you with its stressors, its drama and all of the things you do not want in your life. The trouble is, sometimes our homes end up feeling more stressful than the outside world. With the busy hustle and bustle of our lives, things can get just as stressful where they should be relaxed and comforting. If exercise helps you relax, consider adding an exercise room to your house where you can escape the stress of the outside world. Some gym fitness equipment or workout equipment may be all you need to get a break from stress. Fitness equipment elliptical in your home gives you a place to relax and shake off the stresses of the day.

If working out is not your idea of stress relief and you prefer a spa day, you can turn your bathroom into a spa. Shut out the rest of the world with a relaxing bubble bath or steam shower right in your own home. Paint the walls a soothing color; add some plush, luxurious towels and light several scented candles with soothing scents like lavender. Some time soaking in a hot tub each week may be all you need to alleviate the stress in your life, or at least escape it for a short time.

Having a meditation room gives you a space where you feel at peace and where you can get centered. Meditation is a chance to be alone with your thoughts and take control over your feelings. There are few things more peaceful than meditation and while you can do it anywhere you are, it may be more pleasant and more peaceful if you create a sacred space in your home for meditating. The space should be comfortable and conducive to how you meditate. Some people find lying on the floor is preferred, but others prefer a comfortable chair. Surround yourself with items that bring you peace and commit to spending a few minutes each day in the room. Starting or ending your day with meditation often revitalizes your life and helps you have a positive outlook on things.

If your problems with stress stem from disorganization or if you work at home; consider creating a home office space. A lot of stress is caused because the things you need to do to run a household are constantly getting lost. In other cases, if you work at home, you may have a tough time accomplishing tasks without a predetermined space. Build a space that shuts out distractions and allows you to organize your life.

Finally, if you love to read and that is how you reduce stress levels, but you are always struggling to find a quiet, undisturbed space in which to read, create a reading room. This does not have to be fancy and the room can serve more than just this purpose. The point is to have a quiet space to escape to when times are stressful.
