Teaching kids about money management doesnt have to be the old conventional way by reading a book. You can try to teach them about money management by using simple and interesting games. Read the following suggestions about the games that you can use for explaining this concept to your kids. Take a look.

Understanding budgeting

Budget is an unfamiliar concept to the kids. The younger kids cant realize that their parents have limited amount of spending money each month. So, you should give your kid a broad sense of the term budget. Also, you must explain the way the adults have to divide the budget for each month.

The best way to demonstrate this concept to your kid is by using Monopoly money. Explain to your kid that the amount of Monopoly money represents the amount of money you make every month. Then, try to divide the whole sum of money according to the expenses you have in your home. For this purpose you can use separate boxes for each different expense. Write on the boxes the category of the expense. Then, put certain amount of money in the box for food, an amount of money in the box for mortgage payment, car payment etc. This way youll show your kid how much you spend on the house, on food and so on.

The importance of savings

When your kids are old enough to wish for toys, books and other things, you should teach them how to save for the things they want to buy.

If you want to teach your kid about savings, give him some video game that includes money managing. For an example, let your kid plays some RPG games (role-playing game). This kind of game gives the feeling of being in the shoes of another character such as a soldier who is trying to win the battle. The player has to equip the soldier for the new battles. Lets say that he has to buy a ship, a weapon, etc. So, he has to save enough money just to buy all the things he might need.

Spend the money wisely

Your kids are going to be shoppers for the rest of their life. So, teaching them how to do effective shopping is an essential thing. They have to learn how to get the biggest value for their spending money.

How to teach your kid to become an effective shopper? The best way to show the kid how to make the right purchases can start by involving him in the buying process. For an example, ask your kid to create a weekly grocery list for the whole family. Tell him that the limit budget is $100. So, he has to think with his own head about the prices and the quality of the products needed for the list. Its recommended to explain to him that certain products are a must and others are just a wish. Also, you have to mention to your kid that he can substitute brand labels with other products without sacrificing the products quality. Dont forget to critique his list by pointing out what he has missed in the list.

Teaching your kids money management skills is not an overnight event. Its a process that requires deduction and effort.
