How To Teach A Kid To Be Proud Of Himself

By:

Have you ever failed at something and felt really, really bad about it? Was there anything you could have done to prevent the failure? Was there anyone else who shared in the blame? A spouse? A partner? Did you feel your self confidence was shattered by the experience? How about your self esteem? How far down did you sink? Did you perceive yourself to be a total failure at everything in life because of this one incident?

I have been there and am crawling back again. And I had a wonderfully positive upbringing!

I have no idea what your upbringing was like. Were you poor? Middle class? Wealthy? Did you have an intact family? Did you feel loved? Did you feel nurtured? There are many factors in any one individual persons early upbringing that makes them into who they are.

As most of us know, parents are not always the ones totally responsible for who we become. However, they can be immensely influential. Sometimes for better, but oftentimes for worse. It is not easy being a parent, but there is a lot of good advice out there on how to do a creditable job of parenting. Will you choose to be a parent who instills self esteem, confidence and positiveness in your child?

Sometimes, pride is thought negatively. Conceit, arrogance or selfishness are associated with pride by, in my opinion, unknowing (uneducated) people. To have pride in ones accomplishments is a cause for celebration.

Teaching children to be proud of what they do teaches determination and self esteem filled with self confidence. This is healthy, and will produce successful adults, in my opinion.

Here are a few ways to teach a kid how to be proud of himself and to learn self reliance.

Be tolerant and kind to others
Do the school assignments on time and to the best
of their ability
Help around the house
Volunteer wherever needed
Eat healthy
Participate in physical exercise
Read something extra for fun or interest
Research a religion
Do not rely on Television for correct information
and limit the viewing time
Enjoy nature
Enhance your surroundings
Be clean in thought and deed and dress
OK to make mistakes
Laugh

A caring, engaged parent will think of many more useful tips on how to boost their kids self esteem and teach him to have pride in himself. This is a very good way to live the only life we will ever have. Your child needs you to teach him that. You will be proud of the adult you produce.
