How To Take Proper Care Of Tetra Fish

By:

You'll find different types of Tetra Fish. And each one has its own treatment. However, whats here are just the basic proper care of your Tetra Fishes.

Selecting a Tank

In selecting a fish tank, you need to be able to determine the ideal size of aquarium for a School of Tetra fish. You may use small aquariums like a 5-gallon tank but a 10-gallon aquarium is appropriate for this kind of fish simply because they dont grow larger than 3 inches.

Remember this rule, dont over crowd your tank with fish, else it will have a high competition for the food, and area. I suggest for you to start with 5-8 pcs of Tetra for the 10 gallon tank. It is not suggested that you may have one Tetra simply because they live as a school of fish in natural environment. Just make sure they will have enough place to grow and enjoy their environment. Not overcrowded, and not too few.

Tank Accessories

Its wise to put lots of plants mainly because it will somehow block direct light to the tank because Tetra fish prefers lesser light in their aquarium than other fishes. But ensure that the fish still has plenty of ways to move around and plenty of hiding spots since it will make the fish feel safer in your fish tank. A dark substrate can also be helpful in creating a less bright environment because it is not going to reflect light from your lighting system.

Please, since our intention is to make nature aquarium, I am speaking about the true live aquatic plants here. Dont use plastic. Tetras would be best to look at if they're within a natural environment.

Water Conditions

It is necessary that the water temperature is maintained between 72 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit. A pH level of 5.5 to 7.5 is recommended since Tetra fish prefer moderately soft water and is particularly slightly acidic.

In short, they're for freshwater aquarium and never for saltwater aquarium. Additionally, you should make sure that your substrate neither is white sand nor crushed corals. They will emit calcium in water which isn't too healthy to your fish.

Maintenance

It is very important make your water as clean as it can be but not 100% clean. Make sure you replace about 40% of the total volume of water if you plan to change it per week and 70% of the overall amount of if you're planning on changing it once every two weeks. This is to avoid harming and getting rid of useful organisms that lives within your fish tank along with your fish.

Use heaters if needed and ensure that the water temperature is close enough to the ideal water temperature simply because huge shift of temperature may affect the fish and will cause stress.

Feeding Your Tetra

Tetra fish can take vegetables, flake foods, tropical granules, frozen and dried foods, and live foods. You can actually give meat-based foods for most meals and vegetables sometimes. Please remember that you should not feed the fish with vegetables such as peas simply because it could cause extreme damage to the digestive tract of the fish.

We're not referring here to the raw vegetables alright??? Its best to buy flake fish food rather than try out untested food.
