1. Measure the entire distance around your chest.

The first measurement that you will want to take is the total distance around your chest. With your cloth or soft tape measure in hand or piece of string, yarn, rope, or whatever it is you are using, place one end of it in the center of your chest and then wrap it around your back and then back to the front of your chest on the other side. Make note of the measurement if you have a tape measure, or mark the spot on whatever it is you are using so you can measure the distance from the end to your mark with a ruler.

2. Measure your waist.

Using the same steps outlined above, measure the entire distance around your waist right at your belt line. You will also be using this measurement in determining which size leather vest is right for you.
