How To Start A T-shirt Business: Great Presentations Work!

If you want to have a successful online t-shirt business, you must learn how to present your products attractively. Remember that the prospective customer will base his or her decision to buy your products solely on how they look online. They won't be able to try your t-shirts on to see how it suits them, nor will they be able to feel the material. They have to like what they see for you to be able to convince them to shell out some bucks for your t-shirts.

Of course, the principal way of displaying your merchandise is to take pictures of them, and to load the photos onto your website. However, a lot of start-up t-shirt entrepreneurs make this mistake. They lay their t-shirts on the kitchen floor and use their cell phone cameras to take photos of the shirts. Naturally, there wasn't anything eye-catching about the results. If you display the t-shirts on the floor, they would end up looking just about as attractive as doormats. I strongly doubt if anybody would treat your business seriously, or trust you with their credit card numbers.

You need to present your t-shirts professionally. It's not that hard. Here are some simple tips on how to do just that:

1. First, get someone to model the t-shirts for you. You might want to post an ad on Craigslist for some young people to put on the t-shirts and pose for you. Just so you won't have to bother with staging your home as a background for the shirt, go to a nice park. The pictures and the shirts will look a lot better with a park as a background. Take several shots of each model so you'd have plenty to choose from later.

2. You can also hire a professional photographer. It would be easy to bring two or three models for your shirts to a local photographer's studio. This would cost you a little more, but the photographer would be able to take care of formatting the photos in the way that you want, and you would have them ready for your online catalog.

3. Rent a mannequin. If you have problems with hiring models for your shirts, the other option is for you to rent a mannequin. Although it won't be as good as having live models, a mannequin would still be a much better alternative to displaying the shirts on the floor. You can stage your home as a background, or you can bring the mannequin to a nice outdoor area. The problem with indoor staging is you tend to spend too much time on fixing the background, rather than on taking the photographs.

4. A fourth option would be for you to browse for stock photos of people wearing plain t-shirts, that is, t-shirts without any prints. You can usually find these in stock photography websites. Once you have selected your photos, paste your design on top of the plain t-shirts of the people in the stock photos. Usually, your online shoppers won't be able to tell the difference. But, for sure, the photos will give your t-shirt sales an amazing boost!
