How To Source Sustainable Childrens Clothes

By:

Most people love to wear nice clothes, with quality and style for them and their family at the right price. Nowadays buying online gives us an incredible choice from the comfort of our own home at lower prices as websites do not have the same overheads as a physical shop. Yet the internet and media has also made us aware more and more of what circumstance our consumer products have come from, what type of labour conditions, what type of environmental effects and materials being used. So choosing with a good conscience means finding products that tick all your personal boxes yet are socially and environmentally sound as well. In wanting to make the move over to the right clothes there is an organization called MADE-BY of which for example the childrens brand Mim-Pi is part of, and many others. Especially when choosing childrens clothes you would hate for your children to find out that they were wearing something made by poor kids in another part of the world. Suddenly the clothes would not seem so cute!

If you decide that this is the way to go a good starting point if MADE-BY. It is an independent consumer label for fashion companies who are continuously improving and are wholly transparent about the economic, social and ecological conditions right through the whole supply chain of their collections. Their mission is to make sustainable fashion a common practice. They offer advice and support to fashion companies so that they can gradually improve the social, economic and ecological conditions. They also assure consumers when a brand produces with respect for our planet and the people.
There are seminars held a few times during the year to state the case for sustainable fashion in partnership with the Organic Exchange. The aim is to assist clothing and textile professionals to come up to speed on changes throughout the supply chain. The kind of topics covered are organic cotton sourcing, the sustainable fashion market, how to set up a sustainable strategy, the social conditions in the supply chain, eco friendly fabrics/materials, traceabiity, labeling and certification, dyeing and finishing.

Since 2006 the garments involved in this initiative can be identified by a blue button near the care label. Of course apart from a peaceful conscience, the companies involved in this sustainable fashion organization also have the added benefits of credibility. There is no doubt that as consumers we are becoming far more discerning and educated and it is impressive to see companies who take this step even though it means that practices must change and lots of re-organisation is necessary.

The organization has set up their first UK office in London in February 2009. There was a launch a few weeks later in one of London's hottest venues, The Hospital Club, and the international model Summer Rayne Oakes was present as the Ambassador. This will mean that British brands will now have the support close at hand to make the right move into sustainability. Once a person becomes aware and buys this type of fashion, the quality and style and the feel good factor, normally mean that there is no turning back.
