How To Setup And Manage A Sophisticated It Network?

By:

The process of setting up and managing a sophisticated IT network has become easier because of the introduction of new technologies of networking, and operating system. Some useful features are also introduced that contribute for making the task easier. The main reason behind setting up a network is to get more benefit from computers. The advantage of setting up a network is that it makes it possible to share one internet connection with many other computers. Some files and different software resources can be shared with different computers.

Presently, three types of IT or computer networking are used in homes and offices. These are local area network, metropolitan area network and wide area network. The advanced form of networking is called wireless or Wi-Fi networking.

In an office or home having more than one computer, connection can be attained though the local area network. Some hardware and software are required to set up a local area network connection. For each PC, you will need a network interface card. You will require an Ethernet for two computers and switch, hub and router for connecting more than two computers. Category 5 cables, adapters and connection jacks are also required for setting up a LAN. If you have Vista or XP installed in your PC, no other software is required.

First of all, the basic requirements of the organisation must be clearly defined along with future plans for various enhancements and improvements. This is necessary to plan a network strategy that would fulfil the current needs of the organisation and would also provide enough flexibility for future upgrades and enhancements.

With the help of security settings present in the router or operating system, the network must be protected, so that unauthorised users might not use it. The network can also be protected with the help of some technologies as well as by setting a password. The hardware security features can also be applied for protecting the network against harmful factors.

Some special software packages and loggers are also installed on the main server or the computer of the network administrator which maintains a check on the overall network activity that takes place. These network administration software packages help the network administrators in making sure that the network is working properly and that there is no unauthorised use of the network.

In a small network, every computer has the same rights. All computers take the instructions of the server, and the resources are also shared among different computers. For setting up a network, it is very important to decide that which network should be developed, or set up that will fulfil the aims and objectives behind this process.

It is very important to manage all these computer networks. The first step to mange network is to be careful about the requirements of the organisation regarding virus detection and protection. Moreover, it is important to build a back up for the critical data. A network manager has to configure the file, the application and the terminal servers.
