How To Set Up A Network

By:

Setting up a basic network is essential for any business that has an office building. This is what will tie all of the computers together so that employees can communicate and share information that is relevant to the life of the company. It is also how the employees will be able to connect with the main server that holds all of the information that the company has in its mainframe. Without this, a company would be lost. No one would ever have all of the same information and work would become chaotic at best. In order to set up a simple network for your small business, you need to start with a serial switch.

After you have the switch, you will need a number of powerful network servers. If your business is small enough, you can get by on just one, but even then you would be better off to have two of them to make sure that you have enough space and power for all of your operations. These will be the mainframe and they form the very heart of your network. As your business expands, you will need more and more space. You are better off, then, to have too much space. This way you will never run the risk of running out of room.

The serial switch will be used to connect all of the servers together. It just looks like a simple box with Ethernet cable input plugs in the back. You can use these to run cables from the servers and into the box, giving you a central location that hooks into the whole network. You will then need to run another cable out of the switch and into the console that you want to use in the server room. This can just be a standard personal computer, but it will have the ability to access everything on the network.

After that, you can run more cables out from the switch to hook the other consoles in your network into the server. This could just mean all of the computers that are in the offices. For a small office with only a few computers, you may need only one switch. For a large office, you may need more switches or at least one with more outputs. You will have to figure out which size will work best for your needs.

As you can see, a basic network is not very complicated and can offer a lot to your business. By using a serial switch with the servers, you will give everyone the ability to connect at once. This can streamline communication, improve efficiency, and help your business to make a lot more money in the long run.
