The first thing you have to look for when selecting an affiliate program is to pick a product or service that is in demand. Is the product or service something that others will want to get? Your goal as an affiliate is to create a stream of income and if the product or service is not what it claims to be, then people will eventually stop buying it. The third indicator you are to look for is a good payment plan. There are affiliate programs that pay you only 1% on small purchases. It is difficult to make income from promoting these programs. Ideally, you want to find a program that would pay you a good amount of money for your efforts. A multi level marketing program (a.k.a. MLM program) might be a good idea because it has potential to lead to more earnings from your downline partners.

The fourth element you have to look for is solid customer support and support for partners. You want to associate with a company that works with their affiliates and delivers high-quality support to its clients. If you run into a problem as a partner, you want to be able to communicate with your company without any difficulties. As strange as it may sound, there are quite a few companies that do not respond to the requests of affiliates or customers in a timely manner or at all.

The fifth parameter you want to look for is the program having a well designed site and sales copy that is written to sell the visitor. If you send visitors to a poorly designed website, chances are that they will immediately go away and you will be deprived of your opportunity to make commissions.
