How To Save Money When You Purchase Discounted Gift Cards

'Tis the giving season, so let's talk about gift cards and the new rules in place to protect you from hidden fees and expiration dates. Did you know that you can also purchase gift cards at a discount from their face value? This is a great way to save money, not just during the holiday gift giving season but all year round.

A Waste of $50 That Could Be Avoided Today
The fact is that not everyone is thrilled with the gift cards they receive. For example, I once received a $50 gift card for Cracker Barrel restaurant; which is not really one of my favorites. The gift card was issued several years ago, long before the new rules and regulations about gift card expiration dates and nonuse were in place so I lost out on those protections. The card ended up at the bottom of a junk drawer, lost and forgotten.

Earn Money Selling Unwanted Gift Cards
Today there are options for you to unload unwanted gift cards. At one site in particular, you can sell your unwanted gift cards for cash; and get up to 92% of the face value of the card. You can choose to receive payment electronically via PayPal too. The sites make you an offer based on a market rate which they determine from several factors including seasonality and what brand is that is on the card. I even found a website that accepts your gift cards both through the mail and electronically.

How To Save Money Buying Discounted Gift Cards
The opposite transaction is available too. You can buy discounted gift cards at various websites. There are hundreds of retailers represented,for example, I went on one website today and found a Lowe's gift card for 7% off the face value. There was a gift card for Lucky Brand Jeans for 20% off face value; that means essentially you pay $80 for a $100 gift card. These deals are real savings that add up fast, especially when you are buying gift cards as holiday gifts for several people.

Why Pay Full Price For Gift Cards?
The next time you find yourself staring at a gift card display at CVS, Lowe's or your favorite supermarket, remember that you can buy discounted versions of those very same cards online. You work hard for your money so be smart and take advantage of the easy way to save money using my recommendation about gift card exchange transactions.
