How To Save Money On Airport Transportation - Inexpensive Options

By:

When we travel, we often don't want to ask a friend to give us a ride at 5 am to the airport for an early morning flight. What's the best way to get back and forth from the airport and save a bit of money too? Most airport have economy, short-term and long-term parking options. There are also many areas that have airport parking nearby at local rental car dealers, hotels and auto shops.

Does short-term parking make sense? This is the most expensive option at the airport but may work well for you if you are away for a few days. Generally it is easy to get to terminal from there and has little hassle.

The long-term parking lot may require you to take a bus or shuttle that runs regularly circling the airport. This is less expensive than the short-term parking lot and may be a good option for you. You do not have to pay for the bus or shuttle because you get that service as part of your parking.

The economy parking lot is usually the furthest from the airport buildings and will save you more money than short-term or long-term parking. It may be out in the open and not covered. You should also find out the security coverage at the lot. You also will be provided with a shuttle bus to reach the terminal.

If you don't write down where you parked the car, you may not find it! Parking lots are big and after a long trip out of town you may have no idea where you parked the car so write down the number of your spot. If you don't you may be wandering around the lot with luggage when you return.

In many cities now you can find an airport transportation service that lets you park in town and will drive you to the airport. They may even heat your car up when you return and offer you a warm drink and newspaper. Enquire about this as it can be a good price.

If you are parking in town, keep in mind that they may charge differently for having your car open to weather or sheltered. Depending on the age of your car, you may be fine with it being out in the open, especially if the weather is good. Always check how long the wait is to get their shuttle to and from the airport.

An additional airport transportation parking option is to use a shared ride van that many airports have. In Fort Lauderdale, for example, you can pay 15.00 and be picked up from your home and taken to the airport. There are usually 3 or 4 other parties in the car. Depending on the line up you may have to wait a bit or be in van for a while. Still, you can't beat the price.

Always compare pricing since these can vary from town to town. Also think about whether you want to pay for convenience or it's fine for you to spend longer time transporting in order to save money.
